The Song Saa dining experience

In keeping with Song Saa’s ethos of luxury that treads lightly, our executive chef Neil Wager is developing a unique style of food that draws its inspiration directly from the surrounding environment.

It will make use of sustainably produced local ingredients wherever possible, celebrating the natural gifts of the islands in a delicate fusion of traditional Khmer cuisine and western influences.

But most excitingly, Song Saa’s menus will draw their inspiration from the chosen site of your dining experience. In a unique concept, we will tailor our food and beverage offerings to match the various charms of each location on the island.

Our unique overwater restaurant will feature contemporary Cambodian cuisine. In Villa experiences will draw upon more traditional and homely Khmer dishes. Location dining on fishing boats, on the beach or at our beach bar will have a relaxed and rustic feel.

No matter where you choose to dine on Song Saa Private Island, each food experience will be crafted with the finest and freshest ingredients to enhance the beauty of your environment.

Even our carefully constructed list of cocktails, wines and beers will reflect where you are on the island and further enhance the seductive experience of our private hideaway.

A fine balance
The typical Cambodian meal consists of at least three or four separate dishes capturing a palette of sweet, sour, salty and bitter flavours. Chili is usually left up to the individual to add themselves. We want to expand on this concept and introduce a balance of traditional with new.

Creating our own sea SALT, smoking our own fish with a unique SCENT, using RAW essential ingredients found around the islands, offering HEAT in the form of chili and other spices grown in our own organic garden, and of course finishing each meal with something SWEET.

Dining at Song Saa Private Island will reflect the harmony and balance we aim to reach in all things in this special part of the world.

Growing with us
Our own ongoing education and awareness as chefs is an exciting and important part of life in the Song Saa kitchen, and we aim to share this experience of growth and enlightenment with our guests.

A visit to our organic garden on the island of Koh Rong will excite the taste buds before lunch or dinner, which we will prepare from the daily harvest. We aim to reduce our carbon footprint and utilize what is available locally, supporting and developing local farms and building farmers’ knowledge of new ingredients.

Our experienced chefs will train local kitchen staff, and we will build local skills through a Chef Exchange Program – providing the opportunity for ambitious local staff to work alongside chefs from Australia, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean to name a few.

Listed below are some of the dining experiences that will be available to you during your stay on Song Saa Private Island.

Guest BBQ In Villa
1 Room Villa

Your own coal pot BBQ will be set up on the deck with the full range of your selected ingredients, marinades and salads for you to create and ‘cook your own’.

2 Room Villa

A traditional pipe BBQ will be set up on the deck with the full range of your selected ingredients, marinades and salads cooked by your own personal chef, matched with great wines and served by your host.

Long Tail Boat Champagne Cruise

A beautifully fitted Long Tail Boat will take you around the islands of Koh Ouen and Koh Bong. Select your preferred drop from the Champagne Bar menu or the perfect chilled bottle of choice from either the Salt or Sweet menu.

Song Saa Champagne Bar

This bar sits in one of the most unique private spots on the beautiful Koh Ouen. From this charmed location you can select from the Champagne Bar menu or a chilled bottle of choice from either the Salt or Sweet menu. This is the perfect spot to watch the sun setting and the moon rising over the sea.

Private Beach Dinner

After a wonderful sunset at the Champagne Bar, stroll along the beach to the Driftwood Bar. Here you’ll find your own private spot on the beach for the evening – perfect for a romantic dinner or a great location for the family. Our open air kitchen will delight you as our chefs and bar staff prepare unique food or island cocktails.

Driftwood Bar Sundowners
Welcome to our wonderful Driftwood Bar where you can stop by any time throughout the day for a beer or a light lunch from our Raw menu. Picture emerging from the water after a dive on our private reefs to find cold beers awaiting or the perfect glass of chilled wine. Cocktails will flow each evening between 5 and 7 to coincide with the spectacular sunset. Here you can sit and chat to our chefs as they prepare wonderful tapas and snacks created personally for you from our wood-fired oven and BBQ. Reserve your spot here for your own Private Beach Dinner later in the evening.

In Villa Sundowners
If you want to watch the sunset from the privacy of your own pool, order some bubbles from the Champagne Bar menu, matched with our fantastic sushi and sashimi boats that will float beside you as your relax in the water.

Private Beach Cabana
A private beach cabana is set up on the beach, where you can watch as your dinner is skillfully cooked over a Japanese hibachi grill, while you sit with your feet in the sand.

Poolside Dinner
Here you have the opportunity to taste a traditional Khmer meal while dangling your feet in the water. Your table will be prepared beside the pool, facing out to sea with all the elements provided for a unique and romantic dinner for two.

Full Moon
Join us for our Full Moon Party. The evening starts as you watch the moonrise at a cocktail reception beside the pool hosted by owners Rory and Melita. Then head off to the spectacular Vista Restaurant and Lounge to experience our Lunar Tasting Menu, inspired by the moon and Song Saa’s unforgettable views. Then dance the night away in our overwater cocktail lounge with our resident internationally renowned DJ’s. This is a Song Saa experience you’ll always remember. But if parties aren’t your thing, you can relax in the comfort of your own villa with our specially prepared Full Moon Picnic under the stars.

Wine Tasting
Join us as we take you through our extensive list of wines. Sample some of the world’s finest drops, which have been meticulously matched to our unique menus. We have spent many hours not only selecting the perfect wines for the food but also matching them to the unique ambience of the islands… as you can imagine we had a great time doing this!
